Colin's TEC 30 Experience
10/03/2008

I wanted to write a few words about my experience with Technique Training and how Ive done since completing the Tec 30 course in September / October 2007. Firstly, Id like to thank you all. Some might not appreciate the tutors training methods, his straight forward approach is definitely a wakeup call compared to other courses I have done but I thought it worked perfectly!
The first thing I was impressed by was the friendly atmosphere and community that exists among the staff and students. I am a really shy and nervous guy but I felt at ease and relaxed by the end of the first day. The facilities are excellent (including the free coffee and biscuits!) and the lunch was always good, especially curry and chilli day!
Having very little practical experience beforehand, I was lucky enough to have passed the City & Guilds 2377, 2381, 2391 and all the EAL exams first time, thanks mainly to the advice and preparation given by my main tutor and later in the course by others. Although the theory is challenging, the support is always available to make sure you can get your head around it. It might be daunting to put your hand up to say you dont understand, but its better than carrying on and worrying about it.
After the course I felt really apprehensive about starting in business on my own as a Domestic Installer. This was due mainly to lack of practical experience, but I took the chance and everything is working out really well. Within three weeks of completing the Tec 30 I had my NICEIC assessment and passed first time. A week later I started my business That was in late October 2007.
Now, four months later I have recently turned the business into a Limited Company, I have two guys working for me and the business is expanding rapidly! I currently have several contracts with letting agents, builders and landlords etc as well as a growing base of repeat customers and recommendations.
So many people criticise crash courses, but I feel that if an individual puts in the right amount of work in parallel with the course then there is no reason why they cant make a success using their skills. It isnt easy but if it was everyone would be doing it!
Thanks for your support and I hope more people can share the same success. Ill see you soon for the 17th Edition update.
Kind regards,
Colin. West Yorkshire
