Total Air Conditioning And Refrigeration Courses

TACR10/15

Overview

Our intensive 10/15 day air condtioning and regrigeration training course has been structured to meet the ever increasing demands on industry to meet safety, environmental and legal requirements regarding installation, commissioning, service and maintenance of both refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including the electrical aspect of installation. The course is accredited with a level 3 VRQ maintenance of refrigeration systems qualification.

WHAT WILL BE GAINED

Sufficient skills, knowledge and techniques to install, pressure test, leak test, evacuate, dehydrate and commission typical air-conditioning units in accordance with the regulations and industry good practice. Also you will gain the ability to be able to maintain, install and repair refrigeration plant.

  • Single stage refrigeration systems
  • Domestic refrigeration systems
  • Various types of commercial refrigeration systems
  • Various types of industrial refrigeration systems
  • Performance characteristics
  • Plant operating conditions

There has been a massive growth in air-conditioning in recent years in mainland Europe and the United Kingdom, where the growth has been biggest of all, the problem posed by the UK is lack of suitably trained personnel to competently be able to carry out these tasks. Not only from the air-conditioning / refrigeration aspect, but also (with the advent of Part P), the electrical side as well.

This course commences with the fundamentals of refrigeration and air conditioning theory and covers major component parts and controls including their operation and replacement, diagnostics, basic electrics, charging with refrigerant, the recovery of refrigerant and leak testing. We aim to make every course as practical as possible and at least 60% of the course content is workshop based.

Candidates do not have to have any formal qualifications to attend this course since we start everyone from the absolute beginning, irrespective of their previous experience. The level 3 VRQ qualification can be obtained by completing a workbook and assesments thoughout the course and a tutor guided project after course completion.

On completion of the course, candidates will understand the operation of a simple system and be able to carry out diagnostic, installation and repair work. The following qualifications will be done during the course;

  • EAL level 3 VRQ certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Maintenance
  • CITB Safe Handling of Refrigerants
  • City and Guilds 2078 - Safe Handling of Refrigerants Assessment
  • The CITB Pipework and Brazing Course

The course has been split into the following sections :-

Refrigeration Servicing and Maintenance - 3 Days

No previous refrigeration experience is required for the course. It is suitable for technically-minded personnel considering a career in the refrigeration industry. This course component covers the Basic Refrigeration Cycle (foundation of domestic, commercial, industrial and automotive refrigeration), Controls, Servicing and Maintenance, Diagnostic Skills, Health and Safety. The course enables personnel to carry out, safely and competently, maintenance of plan and record instruments readings.

Refrigeration Recovery and Repair - 3 Days

This section of the course is suitable for personnel who have a sound knowledge of refrigeration systems. The course includes the use of specialist machines and equipment to recover, evacuate, pressure leak test and recharge systems using frost line, sight glass and/or superheat. It also includes swage brazing, nitrogen purging and the safe use of oxy-acetylene, oxy-butane and/or induction heating equipment.

CITB Pipework and Brazing (Commercial) - 2 Days

This certification course is designed to ensure that personnel are practiced in the use of special tools and equipment used to install or repair copper pipework in small commercial and split unit air-conditioning systems. It also covers the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act regarding the construction/repair of refrigeration pipework and the high pressure implications of new refrigerants. The course ensures approved standards are achieved. course notes/record book are provided.

CITB Certification/Registration and ‘Green Card’ is awarded on successful completion of the assessment.

City and Guilds 2078 - Handling of Refrigerants and CITB - Safe Handling of Refrigerants - 2 Days

Certification courses designed for personnel who have completed the above sections and for suitably qualified personnel who are responsible for the installation/servicing/maintenance of refrigeration systems. Training is divided into three units which cover environments impact (ozone layer), regulations (Montreal Protocol) and Health and Safety Procedures (EPA 1990).

CITB Certification/Registration and ‘Green Card’ is awarded on successful completion of the assessment.

City and Guilds 2078 (Units 001/002:Safe Handling of Refrigerants) - Certification will be awarded to candidates who successfully complete the assessment. City and Guilds certification is an internationally recognised qualification. It will also be of benefit to personnel who are planning to work abroad.

The EAL Domestic Installer Scheme - 5 Days

This qualification is a modular qualification incorporating 9 modules. This will include an overview of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and Inspection and Testing, leading to a VRQ qualification titled Domestic Electrical Installer, allowing you entry onto the Part P register. Further detailed information on this aspect of the course is available.

The CITB / City & Guilds Route - 5 Days

This route leads to the Level 3 qualification of the City & Guilds 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. The first 2 days concentrate on the fundamental aspects of electrics, culmanating in the CITB qualifications of Essential Elctrics and Refrigeration Electrics. Following on from this is the City & Guilds 17th Edition qualification. This route does not have as much practical aspect of electrics as the EAL route and is designed for people who already have knowlege of pratical wiring.
