Description
Overview
A comprehensive course for Non-Mechanical Personnel. This course is intended to give a level of competence that allows trained personnel to work safely and efficiently on a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems. We have a large selection of equipment available for use or you may use your own equipment for site/manufacturer specific training.
Aims
On completion of this training, the trainee should be able to carry out the following skills to the standards specified:
Content
Bearings
Correctly install, remove and identify bearing defects. Practice in recognising bearing defects, removing a range of plain, ball and roller bearings, selection and correctly fitting bearings.
Engineering drawings and specifications
Identify pipe contents by colour coding and identify pipe work drawing symbols. Practice in recognising and understanding pipe drawings and specifications to include:
- Colour coding to BS 1710 (1972)
- Understanding graphical symbols BS 2917 (1977)
- Reading and working from hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
Pipe work systems
- Design,fault find and test pipe work systems
- Isolating and emptying pipe work systems
- Using and correctly selecting pipe or tube-end fittings
- Joining, sealing and leak testing pipe connections.
Mechanical devices
Identify, remove, fit, check, align, adjust and test a variety of devices which are commonly used on plants using the correct techniques and tools.

- Safety guards
- Springs
- Cams.
Installing, maintaining and testing hydraulic and pneumatic components Common faults in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
