The 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations Course
31/01/2008
It's Here!
The 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations Course (BS 7671:2008) is available now at Technique Training
This new requirement will come into effect from the 1 July 2008
From then on all commercial, domestic and industrial wiring installations must be designed to comply with BS 7671:2008.
Some electricians may ask why we need another Edition of the Wiring Regulations. This is a fair question, considering the amount of reprints and amendments over the years, however a combination of new technologies, products and continuing harmonization mean that the Wiring Regulations have to incorporate changes such as these and evolve as time goes by.
City & Guilds are currently revising their existing qualifications that relate to BS 7671 and we offer a comprehensive range of new and revised qualifications.
The new portfolio of qualifications, to replace 2381 and 2391, is as follows:
Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671: January 2008) – 2382-10
Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations Update (BS7671: January 2008) – 2382-20
Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification – 2392-10
Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations – 2392-20
Certificate in Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations – 2392-30
Certificate for the Building Regulations Part P – Electrical Safety for Domestic Installers (Qual title TBC) – 2393-10
Certificate for Qualified Supervisors of Domestic Installers. (Qual title TBC) – 2393-20
Certificate for the Building Regulations - Electrical Safety for Commercial and Industrial Installers (Qual title TBC) – 2393-30
What this means in normal terms is, if you already hold the existing 2381 16th Edition Qualification then you will at some point be required to complete the 2382-20 update qualification to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the new 17th edition.
If you do not hold the 16th edition qualification, from January 2008 you will be required to complete the 2382-10 17th Edition qualification. This is the full qualification including all the components which have not been changed from the 16th edition.
The inspection and testing qualification is also changing to incorporate the amendments. If you have no prior experience of inspection and testing there will be a new qualification giving you the fundamental principles of inspection and testing called the 2392-10.
If you have previous inspection and testing knowledge, then the 2392-20 qualification will be the qualification to do.
